HAPPY NEW YEAR 2010!

With all that has been going on, we have forgotten to update our blog. Thanksgiving, Halloween and Christmas have all gone by,and now it is time to write something new. A new year is on the way and hopefully with the new year we will continue to see the signs of recovery from this recession. We would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a very Happy New Year and only good things for 2010, a year to be filled with hope, happiness, peace and prosperity.

Truly a construction holiday.

Although business may ebb somewhat in these warmer months, summer is far from quiet at Edgewood. Murray is busying himself with his favorite hobby - construction - as he works day and evening to subdivide the new office. The latest task is creating a consultation area and office for Brenda, as well as the installation of extensive shelving to house our hard goods. Of course, the progress is charted in photographs...

Edgewood à la hipster.

So the issue of Nightlife that I'd mentioned a couple of posts back will finally be hitting the streets next week. Here's a sneak peek at the cover:

In Bloom.

We've brought in a whackload of plants in anticipation of the Passover and Easter holidays. As rushed and stressed as we all are now in the midst of preparations, an early morning stroll through the greenhouses inspired me to take out the camera and capture the peculiar, quiet beauty of Edgewood at dawn. Happy Spring, everyone.

Edgewood has been invaded by rockstars.

Once in awhile, an opportunity so unusual and off-the-wall comes up, and one has no choice but to seize it. Edgewood, still sleepy from a slumbersome winter, enjoyed one such opportunity this week. My dear friends from the francophone pop band Chinatown, glistening from the completion of their debut album, were tapped to grace the cover of an upcoming issue of Nightlife magazine and were scouting for possible photo shoot locations. The idea of Edgewood came up, and preparations were swiftly made to photograph Pierre-Alain, Félix, Julien, Toby and Gabriel in our verdant Cote St. Luc home.

By eleven o'clock this very morning, our greenhouses were flush with photographers, stylists, makeup artists and of course, the Chinatown boys themselves. The experience, a first for us, was an incredibly positive and memorable one. I mean, it's not every day that I get to have five attractive males changing clothes in my office, but that aside, the band and crew were exceptionally gracious, professional and delightful to work with.

The issue of Nightlife with the Chinatown cover story will be widely available - for free - at about a million distribution points around Montreal at the end of April. Find out which one is closest to you. You can also learn more about Chinatown and their pop magnificence by checking out their MySpace and their blog.

Valentine's Day, V-Day, VD-Day... take your pick.

Times like these remind me of those precious childhood years when twelve months seemed to last a decade. Honestly, wasn't it just February 2008 a short while ago? The weeks pass in a blur and we suddenly find ourselves at the first major floral holiday of the new year, Valentine's Day.

I have made clear my stance on Valentine's Day in the past. It has not changed. I'm a big fan of any holiday that celebrates the all-important L-word (or L-bomb, as so many people choose to refer to it, and in many ways they wouldn't be too far off...) I'm a fan of being able to choose how one wishes to celebrate it. Most of all, I'm a fan of anything that brings in business during this hideous recession. So buy early and buy often, folks, because when your savings have been depleted and there's virtually nothing left in your RRSP, love may not be able to pay the rent but it certainly can make times more bearable. Right?

That being said, the crew here at Edgewood is keeping busy by wiring up roses and taking orders for Saturday (and the increasingly-popular Friday, hint-hint.) We expect yours will be one of them. If you haven't chosen your floral gift already, why not do so now?

Hearts, XOs, puppy dogs and monkey cards to all.

Cold winter days at Edgewood

Yes, the warmth is finally here (-13C)! After a few bitterly cold days of -23C we have received some balmy temperatures. Only 67 days or so until Spring arrives. Now is the time to come into Edgewood and get a glimpse of Spring 2009. We are now displaying tulips, daffodils, crocuses, primulaes and many more flowers associated with spring. Feel free to drop on in and take a walk around our greenhouses to give your body and mind a break from the winter doldrums.
